Dietmar Gottschalls photographic work originates in the years between 1965- 1980. He worked as a journalist specialized on economics. The images he made, he used to a small extent to illustrate his articles, but basically he took pictures out of his passion for photography. Though there is no additional information given about the photographs, I assume that most of them were taken in Germany.
For quite some time now, his son, Juri Gottschall, is going through the about 10 000 photographs of his father. A selection he is putting up the webpage he has installed for him. He is editing his father’s legacy with an amazing sense for quality.
By and by he will, as he goes through the archives of his father, ad more of his images to the webpage.
Dietmar Gottschalls photographs give evidence of his intuition. They also give evidence of his flair for the moment, and show his big artistic talent. His images are intense, they pick up the mood and feel of times long gone by now.
Dietmar Gottschall had an eye for the poetic moment and it’s counterpart, the grotesque. Last but not least, his photographs show a sense of humour rare in photography.
