Walker Evans Child´s Grave, Hale County, Alabama 1936

1936, in the midst of the Great Depression, Walker Evans and James Agee, both commissioned by the Fortune Magazine, traveled through Alabama for an article about the impoverished sharecroppers of the American south.
Looking for the right subject matter they finally ended up in a little town called Stewart, Hale County.

The same year, 1936, William Christenberry was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, not far away from Hale County.
