Cotlands Baby Sanctuary for HIV/AIDS children is a non-profit organisation. It is home to approximately 60 children between the ages of 0 and 9 years. The home is divided into two sections: the sanctuary, for ‘well’ children regardless of HIV-status; and the hospice, for children at the terminal stages of their illness. Not all children born to HIV-mothers will get AIDS. However, 1 in 10 children will become orphaned. In 2005 there were 80 deaths at Cotlands. Cotlands tries to place both HIV-positive well children and HIV -negative children with foster families.
