Orginally traded by Victorian collectors as unicorn horns,
they are in fact,
the front tooth of a rare Moon Whale that lives in the Arctic Seas.
This kind of fraud was common.
The tail of a fish was joined to the torso of a monkey
to create an other fictitious creature: the Merman.
